چکیده

Population estimation implies considering the biology of species, but also constraints logistic aspects such as cost. While common methods based on individual counts can provide precise estimates, they require an extensive sampling effort. An alternative to these is using cues linked species abundance. In that case, producing absolute estimates requires assessing relationship between individuals and cues. this paper, we propose a model data spawning behaviour Approximate Bayesian Computation estimate number sea lamprey spawners nest data. By counting daily occupied nests parameters from behavioural study, set up simulating season returning population by comparison with field Our gives realistic discuss which prioritize collection sensitivity analysis, show halving sample size provides still satisfactory accuracy. We made easily parametrizable application run for any people interested in estimation, believe framework be good way increase both endangered invasive lamprey.

Concentration of Mercury in Selected Tissues of the Caspian Lamprey (Caspiomyzon wagneri) Migrants in Spawning Season

Background: Mercury (Hg) is considered a global pollutant because Hg0 which is the predominant form of atmospheric Hg resides in the atmosphere for as long as 0.5 to 2 years. Mercury has many negative effects on the reproductive, respiratory, and immune systems. Methods: In this study, 24 Caspian lampreys (Caspiomyzon wagneri) were transported to the university laboratory and then stored in ...

Influence of Size, Age, and Spawning Season on Sex Change in Black Sea Bass

A tagging study was conducted off the New Jersey coast to study sex change in Black Sea Bass Centropristis striata as a function of size, age, and spawning season. Throughout 2011–2013, 3,670 fish were measured and 1,498 were tagged from research, charter, and commercial fishing vessels. Of the tagged fish, 437 were recaptured. Size at 50% probability of sex change was 355 mm TL; the proportion...

Estimating Orangutan Densities Using the Standing Crop and Marked Nest Count Methods: Lessons Learned for Conservation

Reliable estimates of great ape abundance are needed to assess distribution, monitor population status, evaluate conservation tactics, and identify priority populations for conservation. Rather than using direct counts, surveyors often count ape nests. The standing crop nest count (SCNC) method converts the standing stock of nests into animal densities using a set of parameters, including nest ...
